Because motherhood will never be a perfect science

on December 11, 2013

So, in our house xmas decorations are a lazy man’s business. The tree goes up when the kids keep asking and a bit of tinsel may or may not be thrown about the house if needed. In the previous years this was acceptable because the kids were young and the only focus was what Santa put under the tree. But now that they are six and three and of course Baby girl will follow her big sister’s lead, they made their xmas lists at the end of September and they’ve been asking about decorations since mid November. Well, our decorations were pretty pitiful after many years of use and I decided to buy some new ones, which I did. I was actually kind of excited to see what the girls would think of all of the new sparkly stuff for the tree and we promised to get the tree up last weekend. Now, we are artificial tree people…I’m sure you’re so surprised. So out comes the tree that elicits squeals of delight each year and while the girls tear their focus away from a repeat episode of ‘Phineas and Ferb’, I get the whole thing assembled only for Diva girl to say “That’s it? That’s our tree?” And of course Baby girl looks at her big sis and then at me and says “Ya mommy…that’s it?” It obviously wasn’t decorated yet…but geez!

I won’t say that I threw ornaments at my children…

That would be wrong, wouldn’t it?

Okay, just checking…
